The LMH Endowment Association Board of Directors,
as a group of volunteers, is unable to manage all the activities
of the association alone. A committee based structure helps this
leadership body implement decisions made as a board and manages
the daily activities associated with the Associations accomplishments.
The following committees handle designated assignments by the Board.
Governance/Nominating Committee
This standing committee of the LMHEA Board of Directors has primary
responsibility for recruiting, orientating and retaining volunteer
leadership for the Association and to identify potential Board or
Committee members.
Planned/Deferred Giving Committee
This committee consists of individuals who are familiar with and
have specific expertise in estate planning and planned/deferred
giving. They are responsible for education of planned/deferred giving
opportunities at LMHEA and will identify individuals, businesses
and organizations that are potential donors to the program.
Executive Committee
Officers of the Board of Directors comprise this committee, which
is appointed to act in place of the Board in emergency situations.
Responsibilities include formulating and implementing policies for
the operations and procedures of the Association. This committee
establishes funding priorities and reviewing requests for distribution
of the funds.
Financial Affairs Committee
This committee monitors, reviews and reports Association financial
activities monthly. Evaluating the audit firm and investment advisor
on a regular basis lead by this committee.
Endowment Public Relations/Recognition
Committee
Public relations is the primary responsibility of this committee.
It is responsible for image and communications programs implemented
by the Endowment Association. This committee puts together the Calendar
of Events for all fundraising activities and develops donor stewardship
and recognition programs.
Funds Development Committee
This committees primary responsibility is raising money and
leading the Board and the community through the process. The committee
develops challenging goals to increase funding, which will support
the priorities and funding initiatives of Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Bob and Mary Kay moved to Lawrence
in 1963, and ever since, they’ve taken great pride in their
community. They’ve watched it grow and change. It’s
not surprising that their lives have impacted LMH in many ways.
Bob served two terms (and an extra year) on the hospital’s
Board of Trustees. Mary Kay volunteered in the gift shop. Two of
their four children worked at the hospital; one as a nurse, the
other as an occupational therapist. Their 11 grandchildren all were
born at LMH. A few years ago, Bob started a habit of bringing dozens
of donuts to the nurses during the holidays. And he even won himself
a teddy bear by outbidding some tough competition during a fundraising
event for the hospital on local radio station KLWN.
“Thanks to Bob Billings,
it turned into a bit of a bidding war, and it ended up being a sizeable
sum!” he laughs, remembering. “But for a good cause.”
He continues, “There’s
a real need in Lawrence for our community hospital, and it is an
absolutely beautiful facility. I have such respect for the doctors
— they really care for their patients and do everything they
can to make sure the hospital has the best equipment and technology.
We are fortunate to have such a hospital here in Lawrence.”
