Chalmers Foundation & LMH Establish First “Mario’s Closet”

The Mario V. Chalmers Foundation is donating $25,000 to LMH Endowment Association to establish the first “Mario’s Closet”. Mario’s Closet will be a specialty shop for a variety of free or low cost accessories for cancer patients. Lawrence Memorial Hospital will operate Mario’s Closet and is anticipated to open in Summer 2011.

“The opening of Mario’s Closet is definitely a large part of the vision I have for the MVC Foundation,” said Mario Chalmers, player for the NBA’s Miami Heat and member of the University of Kansas’ 2008 National Championship Team. “To be in a position to support efforts that will provide for cancer patients in the Lawrence community is one way I am able to give back.”

“We are thrilled that Mario (Chalmers) has chosen to establish the first Mario’s Closet at LMH,” said Kathy Clausing-Willis, VP and Chief Development Officer, LMH Endowment Association. “The emotional boost that wigs, prosthetics and other accessories give to patients currently battling cancer is huge. Mario’s Closet will go a long way to fulfilling that need for patients in our region.”

The Mario V. Chalmers Foundation support of Mario’s Closet will be ongoing. “This is a small way to also say thanks to a community that gave great support to me, my team and family during my time on the court. I look forward to the grand opening of Mario’s Closet at Lawrence Memorial Hospital,” added Chalmers.
