Altrusa International of Lawrence has contributed about 1,000 books each year to babies born at LMH since 2001.Thank you, Altrusa members! In 2001, Altrusa of Lawrence began donating books to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to be given to newborns and their parents, encouraging reading at an early age. Since then, the local service organization has donated about 1,000 books each year to LMH babies.

Valeita Williams, who co-chairs the Born to Read service project with Betty Parks, visited LMH recently to present books to the Bryant family of Kansas City, Kan., including newborn Evan, her sister Emerson, 22 months, and her mother, Kristiane.
